Scolla’s Word (Interview)

Interviews
Scolla’s Word (Interview)

What is Scolla’s word?

Haha That was hot…I dig that. Scolla’s word is success though.

Since I used that pun…Tell the people about your blog and what it means to you.

Well the funny thing about the blog is that it actually started as a requirement for an english assignment I was given years ago during my senior year of highschool. We were giving daily topics and basically had to log our thoughts. At the time I didn’t think much of it and as the assignment came to a close I stopped blogging but I never deleted the account. Fast forward to about 08…I would always have conversations with my team about things going on in my career and in music and entertainment in general and we all felt like we could be the A&R’s of tomorrow lol because we had great opinions and judgement on things. I was also coming off the building buzz from my first mixtape, “Sign Of Greatness” and making a lot of move and I felt like I needed a way to talk to the people (outside of my records) and also voice my opinions on the industry. It just so happens that my cousin (Big Truth) decides to start his blog (flyingwithdafishes.com)which led to me going back and finding my old blogspot account info from 06 and revamping the blog. Thus the Scolla’s Word as you know it today was born. It’s my canvas to express more thoroughly express my views on things and put what I feel is good back into the spectrum.

I know you are into sports…so BCS bowls, did they get them right?

Yeah I think they got it about right, I’m a fan of Texas so I’m anxious to see what happens. Ohio State vs Oregon would be a great game too.

lionsbag

Being from the D are you a Lions fan?

No Comment lol Better yet…They’ll get it together one of these days lol

So you’ve had two releases,”Signs Of Greatness” and “Prelude To Perfection”, which means more to you and why?

tobsptp

Haha That’s like making a father pick between his kids lol. Honestly both were key and vital in my career thus far. “Sign of Greatness” was my first “official” project. My first time putting my feet on to the track to start this race to the finish. “Prelude to Perfection” was necessary to show growth and to let the people know that I’m still working and that there is more to come.

Did you meet your goals with both projects?

Yeah, I’m proud of both project. They did what they were suppose to do. SOG was my introduction to people as an artist and to the internet world. (It actually helped me gain the management team that I’m with now, Fab 5 ENT) So many big (and up-coming) blogs/site showed so much love to me (on my first run) that it blew my mind. It made it a lot easier to gain the following that I have now. The release of “Prelude To Perfection” (like I said before) served as a promo project for people to see that I’ve grown as an artist and emcee. To be honest I wanted people to know that I had bars. I feel like I went in on SOG but because it was my “first” mixtape and because I had so many features and club records that my lyricism was overlooked to a certain degree, so on PTP I chose to body some of my favorite hip-hop beats. PTP reached a lot of people my second go around. It’s helped open quite a few doors and made more people pay attention to the moves I’m making.

What are your goals with your next release “Renaissance Dreams”?

Well with this next project, it’s going to be oriented with more of an album structure. I pretty much plan on doing that for the remainder of my releases. It’s gonna be all original production and this time around I gonna do things sonically that people aren’t used to hearing from me or that I may have touched on, on records from Sign Of Greatness but really didn’t go into. I want this record to reach a wider-span audience and I’m definitely putting a lot more up-tempo performance records on here. The sound of this project is big. It’s like SOG & PTP on steroids.

For those that do not visit your blog…please explain what “Renaissance Dreams” is about and how it pays respect to Detroit.

The title comes from the term Renaissance Man, My own life and Detroit (The Renaissance City). Renaissance Man was a term instituted in the 14th century (Renaissance Era) to identify an individual who excelled in many fields, and being that not only do I rap and sing, but I produce and am into the fashion world I’ve been told I encompass that title. Detroit is a city of the arts and the automobile and thats how it’s hailed the title as the Renaissance Center. It’s no secret the economically, Detroit (an Michigan as a whole) is in the red, but we breed survivors, we breed talent, we breed drive and passion and thats what I want “Renaissance Dreams” to capture. My dreams and ambitions run parallel with that of the people of my city so my aim is to be that voice or that inspiration. *laughs* Bottom line the world needs to know that the D goes hard body!

IF YOU had to CHOOSE one…Producer Scolla or Emcee Scolla?

Hmm that’s a great question. I love both but if I really had to choose one I probably choose producing just because I love being able to create a sound for myself and other artists. The beat is the skeleton for either a possibly wack or a great song and I like to at least get artist a good start on a successful record and be able to guide them some inspiration and direction on the song concepts.

Now after “R.D.” you will be releasing “Confessions Of The Soulful”, can you give us any details on it?

Yeah COTS is going to be the one! lol It’s the project I feel so comfortable with because the music mirrors me to a tee. It’s entirely produced by one of my good friends, Rhode Island producer, Tecknowledgy and every joint has a soul sample in it. With all my other projects the thing that makes them unison is my consistency in quality but as far as sonically I’m all over the place with the production. With COTS, it has more cohesiveness and uniformity. There is a range of topics and emotions but it all fits into one tale, hence the title.

Let ‘em know what you are doing with dropping a verse or track every other day and other plans until the release of “Renaissance Dreams”.

Just wanna stay consistent and keep getting the people new music (Keep these other artists on their toes lol) so I plan on hitting the world with (at the very least) a new freestyle if not a song every other day until I hit them with RD. You’ll be seeing me on a lot of peoples projects very soon as well from hooks to verse to production. (Props To The Xtraordinary Gentlemen)

Thanks bro, and sorry for the delay. SHOUTOUTS?

Thanks Vick, I appreciate the love you show big homie. Shoutouts to all the people that continue to rock with me and show me support. My city (Detroit) My Team (Fab 5/USR/GFS/BGG) and all of my peers making dope music…

Kick me some knowledge with ya favorite quote to leave on…

“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be”
