Interview – Ced Hughes!
Ced Hughes is one of those rappers where, you hear him for the first time and get instantly impressed, you quickly search every social network for the dude to follow, add as a friend or just to hear more of his music. Once you got his music you can just sit down relax and jam out to. Ced Hughes is definetly one of my top picks for anyone who hasn’t heard his music. Ced’s first two mixtapes, Technicolour Soundwave and What Up Tho?! are both packed with an amazing array of beats and dope filled tracks that are sure to cater to your ears needs (haha)
Below is an interview with the man himself!
————————————————————-
Whats up? or should i say ‘What up Tho!?’
Ha! Yea What Up Tho Homie?
Nothin man, What you reside? What you reppin!!?
I reside in beautiful Va Beach Va reppin it, as well as my Hometown In the boonies Moyock,NC which is like 20 mins away..
Cool Cool, now tell us, Ced Hughes in a sentence is:
Ced Hughes is trying to get his Life 1000% better, while still making good music.
What are your influences coming up, idols/heroes/inspirations?
Shiiitt man, Michael Jordan. HA! always wanted to be in the NBA. He was/is the best and has a untouchable legacy.. I’m trying to get that. Also any kinda of creativity or when someone does or thinks of something that is genius, but it’s also so simple that its mind-blowing,inspirational I guess.. Oh and wack niggas..
Haha! I feel that, Can you give us a breakdown of the unique Ced Hughes style, its a lot different to most rappers, why is that?
Hmm? My style has been in the making for awhile. Its prob a combination of different phases I’ve gone through. Started off kind of battle, real lyrical, big word rapper a la Canibus. Then on some more conscious shit like Blackstar and Common. But after awhile I stopped trying to sound or fit myself into a certain box and what not and just did me, like on some whatever I like this beat, this is how I want to flow on it and this is what I’m gonna rap about. That’s where I am now. I’m trying to take it other places but still be familiar to the listener.
All your tapes have incredible sounding beats, how hard is the beat selection?
It’s not that hard. Its probably harder to turn down or not rhyme to certain beats. I usually know what I’m looking for or trying to make. I’m doing a lot of the beats for my new project as well.
What productions do you have in the works?
I have a new project I’m working on trying to drop in Sept. Its called One Day We’ll Wake UP. The theme applies to a lot of different situations that I’ll be trying to convey through certain tracks. We’ll be shooting some videos for it and a couple other secret things to help create a buzz.. Also going to start on a few ep’s with other producers when this it’s done.
Sounds dope, Anybody you would like to collab with in the future?
God and 3000. Could you imagine how dope that track would be. The beat would be by God. You wouldn’t be able to get through the intro it’ll be too much for your brain and ears..Ha
Haha damn, that would be dope..Favourite part of the rap game? performing, fans, studio time?
I LOVE performing but I also enjoy the process of creating a record thatis something that you thing people will get excited about when they hear it. I also dig the fans, its crazy when someone is like “YO, aren’t you Ced Hughes” ha especially when I’m at work. I’m like “yep I am now buy some socks or shoe cleaner so I can get my accessory numbers up..I’m broke homie”..lol
LOL! We eject the CD from your cd player/car stereo, whats playing?
Right now today, Its a Justus League super mix, Little Brother, Median, Scudda, oh there’s some Pharaohe Monch and Mayer Hawthorne up there. I’m on my Hip Hop Shit.
Last but not least, Ced Hughes, 2 years from now is?
Hopefully not working at Finish Line.HA..Its on me tho sky’s the limit. I would love to be working on or dropping a worldwide majorly distributed LP and touring like crazy.
Any last words or shoutouts?
I dont give a fuck about sentence structure and puncuation..so sorry if shit is crazy..shoutout to Currituck School Systems thanks for the AP and Honors classes they helped. Also To My Rebel E crew and YOU the Re-UP Spot. One Day We’ll Wake Up(coming soon)
Much Love man, thanks. Honour interviewing you.
